beijing: my favorite spots

早幾日見新聞有關於北京紫禁城的報到令我突然想睇返以前影嘅相片。基於自己本身太懶同埋時間嘅關係、都完全冇retouch啲相 – 當我再睇返就發現啲好有趣嘅野 – 有幾張响紫禁城同長城係原全冇人o架！唔知下次去有冇機會再影到呢啲相呢？

saw the news the other day about the installation of CCTV cams in the Forbidden City and decided to take my hard-drive and post some photos I took in Beijing, I know what BJ looks like but I was quite surprised to find some pics  were a clean shot – I mean there were nobody blocking the scenery when I took it – I mean its CHINA! That’s pretty amazing to take photos without so many people blocking the way… I guess I can’t these kind of photos next time… (makes me want to take out my passport and just go…ha!)

my choice of the photos i like:

the great wall of china! i always love to come here when i talk about beijing. it’s such a remarkable and amazing location! you’ll just never get bored of climbing the long stairs and looking at the landscape scenery.

i love this view from the forbidden city! i just need to remember where we standing when i took this image…

the emperor of china walked through this alley… and i see nobody… 

i like the colors of this photo…

wow… really first time i see nobody!

next time i’ll bring my own too… very good idea!

    Nice pictures. Brings back memories of my own trip to China and Beijing – never did see the Great Wall (though I think I might have seen it from a plane).

    The Forbidden City was pretty interesting, as was just being in Tienanmen Square.

    My trip to China was a bit drier though… Western China certainly has a different feel to Eastern China and for good reason.

    I don’t know about you, but to me, I got plenty of laughs reading English translated by the Chinese. I can only wonder that perhaps they similarly laugh when they’re abroad and see our attempts at translating English or some other language into Mandarin.

      That is so true about the translations! some of it just makes you laugh – I guess the invention of google translation would help a lot…

      Tienanmen Square is also a good one but its just too crowded with tourists and locals – you just can’t see anything apart from people – so kind of hard to take interesting photos~

      If you have any chance – the Great Wall is such a wonderful scenery to visit! It is just amazing and it will make you speechless seeing the wonderful view on the wall!

      Thanks for the support! I never thought of getting freshly pressed! It is very exciting and it is fun that people can see the photos i took~

      China is always exciting experience and it changes quite a lot ~ so it should be different next time I visit~

    Wow your photos are absolutely beautiful!!! I was in Beijing three years ago, it’s gorgeous! It’s amazing you got all those shots without people in them – those are treasures 🙂

      Thanks! Beijing is a lot different now from 3 years ago~ the changes are massive! Yes, these are some photos I took without people (the others have people in them)~ it is good memory~

    How the heck did you get up on the wall and there was no one there???? I’ve done the wall in various places, at various times of the year, in and out of Beijing….. and notta. There were always these umbrella’s about poking me in the eyes.

    I love it!!! Your pictures are indeed amazing!!!!

    And congrats on making Freshly Pressed!!! That is something to be proud of!!!

      Yes, Beijing is always great fun to visit! You noticed that I took that photo at the top – people are very eager to get in the forbidden city so quickly that a lot of things are ignored~ so I took some time wondering around to make sure I won’t miss anything~

    Beautiful pictures. I especially like the one the third from the bottom. It’s amazing that there are places like this after you go day in and day out living in the city or in a rural area. Like you said, it defintely makes me want to fish out (and dust off!) my passport and go on an adventure.

    The Great Wall is one Bucket List item that I’ve yet to check off my list.

    Your pictures are beautiful and inspirational.

    I hope that I can accomplish walking on the wall one day.

      Yes, this is considered one of things that people have to go~ it is an amazing scene and you won’t regret going! I’m from Hong Kong~ and I lived in Melbourne for quite some time~ so going to the Great Wall was a great experience for me as well~ You should come and see it!

    Wow – your pics made me nostalgic for China! I went to Beijing in winter, and managed to get the Great Wall on a quiet day too! What a treat.
    I also really like the colours on the wall/door picture.

    These are wonderful photos! Having been to Beijing a number of time over the past year I can understand the difficulty and frustration it is to wade through a sea of what seems like a gazillion people but you’ve managed to capture some great shots, especially at the wall, it can get really crowded at Badaling which is more touristy than the other spots so it looks like you picked your spot well or just got really lucky with the day you went!

    These are great pictures and you’re lucky to not have had people around. What part of the Great Wall are your pictures from? MuTian is my favorite part. Forbidden City could take hours to wander through, it’s just so massive. Congrats on being FP!

    I loved your photos- I was in Beijing – December 2005. The temperature was -8 degrees. I was very cold walking around the Forbidden City and then I turned a corner and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Starbucks – the only time I have ever liked a cup of their coffee!!! As I walked around the Forbidden City I tried to imagine what it was like before the Last Emperor. The scenery around the Great Wall looked at lot different – it was bare of green foliage but had not yet snowed… Thank you i have just had a trip down memory lane…

    I really really like the fourth picture
    These pictures remind me of stories about Qin Shi Huang because they mentioned the Great Wall of China
    however, these one are fantastic!

    Amazing photographs. I visited the Great Wall and Forbidden City in 2009. The GW was imposing whereas the Forbidden City came across as ‘forlorn’ despite the crowds.

    These photos remind me of the Beijing of my childhood. My parents and I lived there on and off until I was 7, then we moved away to Canada. I’ve always had these warm memories from living there – the beautiful parks, the fragrant restaurants, eating fried chopsticks with soy milk in the morning.

    I was surprised when I went back a few years ago, 20 years after I left, at how much is changed. I knew about all the changes but to see it was shocking. A lot of the city looked like Toronto. I was a little disappointed, partly because I wanted to relive my childhood memories. Your photos brought some of that back for me.

    Nice post and nice work. I especially like the empty Great Wall picture (it seemed like half of China’s population was there when I visited…), the place where the emperor walked, and also the red door.
